Robert Comploj is a trained carpenter. During his apprenticeship, the native
Tyrolean took a three-hour course in glassmaking — an experience that sparked a
lifelong passion for the craft. What followed was a ten-year journey around the
world, driven by his desire to perfect his skills in working with glass.
Comploj learned from renowned artists such as Eric Meek from the Corning
Museum of Glass. After extended stays in the USA, England, and Denmark, he
returned to Austria and established himself as an independent glass artist in 2013.
Four years later, he founded his own glass studio in Vienna’s seventh district.
Robert Comploj sees himself as a sculptor whose medium is glass. Over time, the
self-taught artist has increasingly focused on creating art objects, some of which
were developed in collaboration with prominent artists such as Thomas Schönauer
and Hubert Schmalix. Comploj's works are represented internationally at fairs such
as Art Basel Miami and Art Brussels.
